Home, Chatel and villages closeby.

This is Jonny and his dad loading the '34 ready for the long trip ahead.

700-odd miles later we were nearing Chatel. The journey was fine until we got lost, then all hell broke loose. No map, no French, hills, rain, then darkness. Then we ran out of petrol and French petrol stations don't take our filthy les rosbifs English cards.

We managed to talk some nice folks into trading us some petrol for cash. They even seemed to know where we were going and pointed us in the right direction. Just forgot to tell us it was 50Km away.

Had a bit of a California Kid moment on the wet dark hill roads when the car got a bit out of shape on the slippery surface. Couldn't see a damn thing, then the white line in the middle of the road became a barrier which we nearly hit aaaaaaaagh we're gonna die.

Arrived 11:30pm, shaken but not stirred.

A good night sleep later and we're back on the road, this time with 11 other English hotrods bound for Spain. Spirits were high and engines were revving.

The other English cars at Chatel had left a few days earlier to go to the French Nationals. The weather was off and on in the hills and the '34 did try to get a bit sideways on those little mountain roads. Some planned, some not.

These are all the cars dropping down the hill out of Chatel in the Alps.

First fuel stop of the day. Think this is the most business this guy had done all year. These hotrod things are thirsty you know.

And goodbye Chatel. The stay was short but sweet!
